Slangerup, Denmark, May 2007

In May and the beginning of June we went to Denmark on an extended weekend. We were driving in a rented Opel Corsa from Hertz. Here we are in Slangerup. Magnus had previously been travelling with us, but this was James' first trip with the Travelling Bears and he was nearly hyper. Frances had found him on the road at home. He had been run over and Frances brought him home and repaired his leg. Boy, was he happy....

We were going to visit the Swedish city of Malmö to see the "Turning Torso", not only a new building, but a landmark of the city. At the time of departure from Slangerup, Roger wanted to sit where we could see everything. Poul's mother made sure we were sitting safe at the back of the car.

The Turning Torso in Malmö is 190 meter high so is easy to spot from miles around, and we had no problems finding our way.

We wished to travel all the way to the top. It turned out, however, there was no public access to the top. Roger complained to the consierge in the reception and pointed out that we were bears, not humans. The consierge nearly gave in, however, the manager unfortunately turned up with the rules and argued that "no public access" wasn't limited to humans, but included bears as well!

Since we couldn't enjoy the view from the top of the Turning Torso, we went downtown and enjoyed some of the very special sculptures near the harbour.

We also went to see the central station. Malmö is a very environmental friendly city and the green buses in the background were all running on gas instead of petro diesel.

Malmö is an old Danish city, and the old renaissance town hall behind us was built when Malmö was still a Danish city.

We also went to Lund to see the old cathedral. According to McBear it was finished around the mid 1100's.

Inside was a large model of the cathedral. Roger decided to examine the model.
"What are you doing up there?" McBear shouted at him. "What will happen if the reverent sees us? We'll be thrown out"

Then it was time to head home to Slangerup. On the return we were going to pass the fantastic ôresund Bridge connecting Malmö in Sweden and Copenhagen in Denmark.

The bridge is fantastic with its 200 meters high pylons at the middle of it.
