Travelling is great but there are however some downsides. One of them is laundry! Before leaving Denver in order to go to Utah, our owners wanted to have some laundry sorted, and they asked us to guard the laundry. McBear said it was an outrage and reminded them of our constitutional rights. But then one of our owners asked:
"Do you want to come to Salt Lake City or not?"
So we were all guarding the laundry...

In order to go to Utah, we'd be driving from Denver to Cheyenne and from here follow the Interstate 80 through the state of Wyoming. Most of Wyoming is part of the Rocky Mountains but is not mountainous like Colorado, more like high plains with altitudes between 6000 and 8000 feet.

Buford, Wyoming, May 2008

Most of the towns in Wyoming are small. This became evident as we refuelled in Buford. As you can see on the sign, Buford isn't exactly over populated, and Buford is said to be the nation's smallest town.

We stopped in Wamsutter to have some lunch. McBear and Roger went out to have a look at the large trucks and to have their photo taken. It was extremely windy and cold.

Just as we sat down to have a photo taken, a pickup rolled up right in front of us. It was the sheriff! The pickup blocked our view so we wished to go somewhere else. But just as we were leaving, the sheriff rolled down the window.
"What's going on?" he asked with a slow American accent!
Well, all he could see was two bears and an owner and since we didn't do anything wrong, he soon left. Pity we only got a photo as he had turned around the pickup and was leaving...

Having driven more than 550 miles we finally arrived our hotel in Salt Lake City. It was Radisson and among the best in town.

As we were awaiting our luggage, we enjoyed the lovely lounge section in the reception.

The room was... well, okay. Roger wasn't impressed however. We unpacked our stuff. McBear showed us a new poster he had bought in Laramie, a town we passed on the way through Wyoming.

Antelope Island, Utah, May 2008

Next morning we went to see the Great Salt Lake. At first we went to Antelope Island which is located in the Great Salt Lake. It was cold and very windy and all we wanted to do was to get back in the car.

A special feature of Antelope Island is a herd of 500 to 700 buffalos roaming free on the island. Well, we only saw two buffalos, but one of them was scaringly close.

Then we went to explore the Great Salt Lake Desert. It's a vast area, mostly the flat seabed of a large inland sea that has now dried out. Here we are on the salt flat. The mountains in the background are miles and miles away.

McBear wanted to see Bonneville as it was here in the sixties and later that many landspeed records were set. Now, there was no tests running, so we soon left and started to head back - another 110 miles back to Salt Lake City! Next day it was another 550 miles back to Denver! The weather was unuasual in that the same day there were tornadoes in both Laramie and in Windsor just north of Denver! Normally, tornados stick to Tornado Alley in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and other states, but not Colorado and certainly not Wyoming

Then the sad day came when we had to leave Denver. We headed to the airport for the last time and checked in...
